Statement__
As to Policeman Electioneering. Officer Stephen G.Nelson, Eastern District.
In the matter of the statement said to have been made by Mr. John A.Jenetzke, charging that a certain policeman (Officer Stephen G.Nelson), had been electioneering, etc., among the Hebrews, as referred to in the proceedings of October 31,1902.
A report was received from the Marshal transmitting statement from John A.Jenetzke and others with respect to alleged conduct on the part of Officer Nelson. The report from the Marshal was read and ordered filed, see Exhibit No. 852.
In this connection, however, it was ordered that the Marshal send for Officer Stephen G.Nelson, and warn him that if he is doing things alleged against him in statements hereinbefore referred to he must desist.
Delivery of Stolen Property To Owners. Cases Against Thomas J.Tate.
In the matter of the recovery of property as having been stolen by Edward J.Tate, the Secretary reported to the Board that the Department had made out against the said Tate several cases, but that the State's Attorney accepted from the prisoner a plea of guilty in one case and had stetted the others, thereby leaving the question as to the property rights in the articles recovered in the untried cases to be determined by the Board of Police Commissioners.
In view of the bad reputation of Tate throughout the conn-try and other circumstances, the Board decided to take testimony to ascertain the pwners of property entered in the Property Record, as:-
