v ¦ \j \j \j 153 The Maryland Anti-Saloon League hereby makes complaint to the Board of Police Commissioners of Baltimore City of certain official misconduct on the part of Detective Hammersla of the detective force of this city in connection with the cases of certain persons charged with the violation of the liquor law in Harford County and Baltimore City, and in pursuance thereof alleges the following facts:- I. That in the month of June, 1902, Louis Wein, a detective in the employ of the Maryland Anti-Saloon League, testified before the Grand Jury of Baltimore City in certain Sunday liquor cases, and upon the testimony given by him and a certain Maynard M.Met calf the Grand Jury found indictments alleging that intoxicating liquor had been sold on the Lord's day to said Wein and said Metcalf in the Eutaw House, Kelly's Hotel, Leach & Carroll's and other hotels and saloons in Baltimore City. II. That in the months of August and September, 1902, the said Wein, together with one John Sperzel, acting as employees of said League, secured evidence and testified before the Grand Jury of Harford County, which thereupon found indictments against a certain David A.Fisher and a certain George Guy, and a number of other persons in said county, for violation of the liquor law thereof. III. That after the finding of the indictments aforesaid by the Grand Jury in Baltimore City the said Hammersla, knowing that the said Wein had secured evidence of violations of the liquor law of Baltimore City, and that the said Wein was a necessary witness for the State in such cases, and with the intent to discredit the testimony of the said Wein, did undertake to find if possible something detrimental to the character and reputation of the said Wein.
