| OFFICE OF THE BOAFD OF POLITEE COMMISSIONERS. Baltimore,, Friday, February 20th,19Q5. Board met; present,Messrs UpshurtMorris and Fowler. The minutes of the previous meeting, Wednesday,February 13th,1903, were read, approved and adopted. Trials. Officer William L. Scrivner, Northwestern District, reported for havingbeen in Charles Sands Coal Office,on Smith street between Carey and Calhoun streets,from 3.34 to 3.48 A.M.,February 19th,1903, on other than police business, was excused. Officer John L. Schwartzkopf, Northwestern District, reported for having been off his post and in the coal office of Charles Sands,on Smith street,between Carey and Calhoun streets,from 3.34 to 3.48 A.M., February 19th,1903,on other than police business, was excused. Officer Henry J. Roemer, Southern District, was fined One Dollar for having been five minutes behind his squad coming in on duty 8.1>3 A.M., February 19th,1303. Detective Thomas A. Berney, Southern Diatrict . In the matter of complaints against Detective Thomas A.Berneyr Southern District, as referred to in the proceedings of the Board of January 31st, February,2nd,4th and 11th,1903,- Detective Berney appeared before the Board as directed. The President read to Mr.Berney the allegations contained in the anonymous communication received by the Board,together with statements made to the Marshal in his investigations into the complaints, as mentioned in the minutes of the dates above specified and filed as Exhibits Nos.930 and 956. Mr.Berney admitted having spoken to Officer Bracken upon the subject of the arrest of a man by the name of Sollinger, as claimed,but denied the other accusations. The President, speaking for theBoard, told Detective Berney that while there is no conclusive proof of it,the Board is of the opinion he had been guilty of having criticized Officer |
