Gatch, who had been ill with typhoid fever just a short while, died at the University Hospital last Sunday niorning. He mas taken ill about two weeks ago at his home, and the best medical aid was rendered, when it was advised that he be taken ot the hospital. His funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from his parent's home, Boston Heights. He is survived by eight brothers and two Mr and Mrs. H. Clifton McCormick, of this place, were given a surprise on Tuesday evening by Garden Rebekah Lodge, No. 33, in honor of their twentieth anniversary. The evening was spent pleasantly in various ways together with music and siViging,. after which the. guests partook of refreshments. The rally day services held at Over-lea and Gatch Sunday Schools was a decided success, and a large attendance was reported at each school. On Friday evening the Ladies' Bible Clas:S of Gatch M. E. Harvest home services were held at Emmart Church last Sunday. A large donation of vegetables and home cured hams was made to the pastor. Beautiful dahlias were also donated and taken by the pastor, Rev. O. W. Brit-tmgham, to the Maryland General Hospital. On the last Sunday in this month we will have another special service and donations will be given to Kelso Home. About three dozen jars of canned goods are ready for the Home from Emmart's people. On Sunday night, October 17, Dr. Gambrill, of Ellicott City, will lead the League service at Bmmart'si Church. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stirn are very proud of a little daughter. The patrons of Johnnycake School met at tne school on Tuesday night Rev. and Mrs. O. W. Brittingham took supper at the home of Mr. Christian Sauter on last Sunday evening. --------------o-------------- HEREFORD. Sunday School tomorrow morning at 9.30 o'clock; preaching at 7.30 P. M., both churches. Rev. Bert Constance has gone to England to see his father, who is very ill, and expects to be gone three months. Rev. Curley, of Monkton, will take charge of his work until he returns. The Jr. O. U A. M. of this place will hold an oyster supper on October 23 so be sure and come, as Hereford is noted for the best suppers in thit community. Mr: Alex. Bull has moved his faniil-into their new home on the Monkton road, which he purchased from Mr Luke Price. Mr. Freeman Miller and family spest last Sunda ywith his brother, Mr. Harvey Miller, near here. Miss Hilda Davis, of Baltimore, spent the week-end with Miss Josephine Miller. Mr. and Mrs. W. O'Dell have returned from their trip to Trenton, N. J., very much pleased with their trip. A free medicine show will be given tonight at the White House. Ice cream and cigars will be free. The ladies from Armacost turned out Tuesday to register. Most of them affiliated as Democrats. The husbands remained at home to care for the children. Mr. Jesse Ashe, of Baltimore, is spending a week With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Port. Rev. "Uncle Jimmy" Ritteshouse, of the Thirteenth district,, was then called by the crowd and given a rousing welcome by his old friends. He told some home truths concerning Democracy and the candidates in his own most convincing way Mr and Mrs. R. Howard Chapman, of Philadelhia, who have been spending their vacation with relatives here, have returned to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fitzell, . who were married at St. John's P. E. Church on Monday, are spending some time in Philadelphia, Atlantic City and New York and will on their return reside at Walnut Hill. The Forty Hours' Devotion will at St. Stephen's Catholic Church "tomorrow at the 10.30 mass and will continue until Tuesday morning, will b s on Sunday and Mondav nights at 8 o'clock. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Gladden in the loss of their little twin infant, Catherine Louise, who was buried at St. Stephen's Cemetery on Wednesday morning. BUTLER.
