This instance was the only time in history that an Indian has sung important roles in grand opera. Caupolican has a magnificent baritone voice. His debut in grand opera was made in the musical version of "The Belles," which was called "The Polish Jew." Here he created an

Himself an Aboriginal American, he represents the Indian perhaps better than any other red man in public life today. He is no longer simply a vaudevillian, though he adds his goodly measure of elustre to th lights behind the footlights, but he has by his intelligence, his charm and his power as an orator placed himself before his public as a representative citizen of one of the leading republics of South America (Chile). As a vaudeville singer he ei entirely unique. His voice has the vibrant power and the mellow

will talk. There are two black crows who talk without this operation, and when they talk they say something. The something is usually comment on a pertinent subject and it has a kick like an army mule or an old guzzled leader. These crows are George Moran and Charles Mack and they utilize their conversational kick in the way of modern inventors of machine guns using the recoil to discharge the next shot.

CATONSVILLE CHURCH LAYS CORNERSTONE.
The cornerstone of the Sunday School House and Community Center of the Catonsville Methodist Episcopal Church, Frederick and Melyin avenues, was laid on Sunday last with full religious and Masonic ceremonies.
Addresses were given by the Rev. Dr. J. Martin Gillum, superintendent of the West Baltimore District of the Baltimore Annual Conference, the Rev. Dr. John R. Edwards, corresponding secretary of the Methodist Episcopal Board of Foreign Missions, and a former pastor of the Catonsville church; the Rev. Frank G. Porter, also a former pastor of the church and one of the instigators of the new group of buildings, and the Right Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Maryland, Warren S. Seipp.
The cornerstone was laid by Worshipful Master Jacob Ebert of Palestine Lodge of Masons, Catonsville, assisted by members of the lodge.
In the $200,000 building a gymnasium equipped with shower baths, dressing rooms and stage, a kitchen completely furnished, and bowling alleys comprise the first floor. On the second floor are separate rooms for a graded school while the third-floor will be used as a chapel until the new church is built. * ----------o----------

Dr. Josiah Bowen, Count Health Officer," diagnosed the so-called "trench mouth" disease which is supposed to be scourging residents of some sections of the State, as an affliction of the eyes rather than of the mouth.
These folks, who think they have seen more than 15 or 20 lost teeth in a single block should visit an eye specialist, a dentist or officials of the Salvation Army with the least possible delay, says Dr. Bowen.
It was reported that the malady had been brought to this country by war veterans who had contracted it in the trenches in France.
Dr. Bowen said he thought the whole "scare" was the product of an unusually morbid fancy and had no basis in fact.

THE SIGN HAS BEEN REMOVED,
The sign which disfigured the slope of Prospect Hill Cemetery on the York Road, has been removed, the grass has been cut and it looks now as it should. There is no more beautiful location for a cemetery anywhere. The view is unsurpassed and it should be kept free from objectionable surroundings. When The Jeffersonian caalled attention to the sign it was only for the reason that we wanted the cemetery preserved in all its natural beauty, and we are sure we reflected the views and sentiment of everyone, especially those who have friends buried there. The Cemetery Company probably did not know the sign was placed there until we mentioned it in these columns. At any rate it has been removed, for which we return thanks.
