Surroundd by an angry and threatening group of motorists, Joseph Kothanowski 600 block South Bond street, was arrested by Essex police on the Eastern Avenue road near Willix avenue after his car had crashed into a smaller machine and injured six persons. Following the rear-end crash, according to witnesses, Kothanowski and his companions attempted to drive off without rendering assistance. An unidentified man jumped in front of the machine and dared Kothanowski to proceed. He and his companions leaped from the machine, it is alleged, and were about to attack the man when other motorists went to his assistance. In the confusion Kothanow-ski's companions slipped through the crowd and escaped across the fields. The crowd closed in on Kothanowski. The poolice found him in the center of a menacing group. The machine which was struck was driven by John Bentz, 28, of Essex, Md. It was westbound on the Eastern Avenue road when the other car struck it from the rear, hurling it into a ditch ad overturning it. In the car were Mrs. Carrie Barth, Fifteenth street and First avenue, and her four children, Edward, 12; Nelson, 10; Marion, 4, and Lee, 3. Edward suffered a fractured skull and is in a serious condition at Bay View Hospital. Tarry Hamburger filed a bill in tthe Circuit Court at Towsou in which he asks for an absolute divorce from Mrs. Lillian May Hamburger on the ground of abandonment. The bill states that the parties were married May 14, 1902, and separated July 2, 1921. Mr. Hamburger resides in the Thirteenth district. Kothanowski was charged at the Essex Police Station with driving an automobile while under the influence of liquor. The charge was laid by Patrolmen Edward Benhoff, Frederick Peters and George Hoh-man, who arrested him. ANNUAL LAWN FETE TO BE HELD. BALTIMORE OTTY COUPLE MARRIED AT ELKRIDGE. Miss Josephine E. Hopkins and Robert-E. Clark, both of Baltimore city, were married in the rectory of Graace Protestant Episcopal Church, Elkridge, by the Rev. Dr. Edwin S. Hinks, rector. After the ceremony Mr. aand Mrs. Clark left for Atlantic City. HYDE MAN IMPROVING. Mr. William Grover, Jr., of Hyde, is steadily improving following an operation at a city hospital. TOWSON BARRISTER SAILS FOR EUROPE. Frank H. Jacobs, Jr., who makes his home with the Smock's at Aig-burth Park, and a member of the Towson bar, has sailed for Europe to attend the convention of the American Bar Association to be held in London. $9047 TO BE SPENT ON FREDERICK ROAD. Bids for the repaving of the Frederick road, through Catonosville, have been opened by the State Roads Commission. Patrick F. Redding-ton was low bidder, $9047 for the work. It is expected that work will be begun immediately. JACOB FRANCE "SLATED' OOSDEN HEAD. ED" HERRMANN SUCCEEDS LATE PHILIP A. KROH AS PULLERTON MAGISTRATE. GARBAGE PLANT BLAMED FOR FISH MORTALITY. Following a survey of bay tributaries to establbish the causes of the death of fish that have been fre-uently reported, Dr. W. P. Davis of the United States Bureau of Fisheries reported to Swepson Earle that only in Bodkin creek had he found evidence of pollution. Mr. Earle declared this pollution came from the garbage disposal plant to a great extent and that an effort would be made to have the condition corrected. Dr. Davis reported he had found catfish and eels in Back and Middle Rivers had died from a parasitical disease. They had been reported dead in great numbers. In the Magothy river, where fish of all kinds had been found floating about the river this year, Dr. Davis reported they had been killed in pound nets and had been thrown away by fishermen in most cases. Edward J. Herrmann has been named by Governor Ritchie committing magistrate at Fullerton to succeed the late Philip A. Kroh. MRS. SCHESTAG'S FUNERAL HELD AT ST. BENEDICTS'. FOR Reports persist in the financial district that important changes are pending in the official staff of Cos-den & Co. According to the story current, J. S. Cosden, formerly of Catonsville, founder and president of the company bearing his name has reuested the board when it meets for reorganization to elect another to his position. The story furtther says that Mr. Cosden will become chairman of the board, and that Jacob France, of Ca-toonsville, vice-president ' and general counsel of the company, has been offered the presidency. Cosden & Co. is one of the largest independent oil refining and producing companies in the Mid-Continet field. It was origially financed largely by Catonsvillians. Mr. France, who is spoken of as the probbable new president of the company, has been vice-president and general counsel ever since the corporation was organized. He has lived in Catonsville nearly all his life. He is said to be thoroughl conversant with the affairs of Cosden & Co. ------------------o-----------------------¦ AUTO CRASHES INTO POLE AT RELAY. An automobile driven by Earl Baldwin and occupied by himself and John Wright crashed into a pole at Rolling Road and Viaduct avenue, Relay, when the driver lost control of the car.
