| THE JEFFERSONIAN, TOWSON, MARYLAND Saturday, August 30, 1924—Page 5 IN CHARGE TO KNIGHTS, TYDINGS SAYS TOURNAMENTS REPRESENT CHIVALRY AND SPORTSMANSHIP Two Things Needed In Present Stirring World Affairs—Owing To Its Commercial Supremacy U. S. Is In Position To Bring About Peace, He proclaims. Congressman Millard E. Tydings delivered the charge to the knights at the tournament held by the Tow-son Lodge of Odd Fellows on the grounds of the High School. He said that tournaments in a sense represent chivalry and good sportsmanship, two things which he claimed were needed in the present stirring world affairs. The United States, he said, on account of its commercial supremacy, is in a position to do much toward bringing about an era of peace. ,:I am not among those," said Mr. Tydings, "who, in a desire to promote peace, are willing to scrap our national army and navy. I believe that we should be prepared to defend ourselves against war as we should be prepared to defend ourselves against other diseases with which the human race is confronted." He said that while human greed and human hate exist there would be war. However, the speaker asserted, much can be done in eradicating the war spirit, and in this work the American nation could on ecount of its powerful position be an important factor. The honor of crowning the queen j of love and beauty was won byi Richard Streett, knight of "MyI Maryland," who gave it to Cleatis Heaps, knight of "St. Mry's," who crowned his wife, Mrs. Anna Heaps. Barnerd Gosnell, knight of "Little Bell," crowned Miss I. May Bright-well as first maid of honor. Wm. Isennock, knight of "Overlea," crowned Miss Myrtle Francies second maid of honor. R. D. Akehurst, knight of "Maplehurst," gave the honor of crowning the third maid of honor to Henry Richardson, Knight of "Norrisville," he crowning his wife, Mrs. Elsie Richardson. The coronation address was delivered by E. E. Ridgely Simpson, Republican candidate for Congress. The chief marshal was Paul A. Fleury. The judges were H. G. Gaither, Major R. C. Brady and G. L. Stryker. The cash prizes were won in the order named: Patrick Brady, G. 8. Hobbs, Joseph Brady, Henry Richardson, R. S. Blizzard, James W. Streett, Jr., Wm. Brady, Cleatis Heaps. DR. EBERT COMES NEAR "GET-TING IN DUTCH." Dr. J. Wm. Ebert, of Towson, was almost arrested as an "auto jack" in Baltimore city one day this week. It appears the Doctor jumped out of his Buick touring car to take his "old straw hat" into a cleaning establishment, and in his hurry jumped into what he thought was his car, and started off. He had hardly driven a half block when a fellow ran up yelling "What you doing with that car," and immediately the Doctor realized he had confiscated someone else's vehicle. After an exchange of cards and a, hand-shake each got into their own machines and started on their way. REVENUE FROM COUNTY HENS IS QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS TO OWNERS. Poultry Industry Is Big Item In Farming Revenues Of Ruralites— Turkeys Included In Figures Given. (Continued from Page 1) say that others can follow the example set, and become larger producers of products that are known to bring in a good part of the county's agricultural revenue. Interest in the size of poultry production should go, han din hand with interest in better methods of poultry production. In ( this respect, it is of noteworthy interest that throughout the length and breadth of Baltimore county farmers wives are keeping two or three hens to get one egg daily. If this can not be overcome, let us. go on as we are going. If it can be overcome, and, if the farmer's wives can cut their flock to such dimensions that approximately every eating hen is a laying hen, then let us do the cutting and thereby rid the county of some few thousand *.hens that are now eating high priced chicken feed, laying mash, etc., without any excuse in dollars in cents for their existence. Recent work in poultry culling has furnished adequate proof that it is not at all difficult to remove infallibly those hens that are non-producers and star boarders of the flock. The means of accomplishing this is simple in the extreme, and anyone can learn the essential details of poultry culling in fifteen minutes of work under the direction of some person who has done the culling. It is certainly to the advantage of those who have never culled their flocks to have these flocks culled or to learn themselves the art of removing boarder hens. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. FARM FOR RENT. Leroy Crum, 15, was killed when he touched a live wire near Pier 3, Wallace and Martin streets, Locust Point. He was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad as water boy for a gang of trackmen. Claude Rimbey, 48 East Randall street, working near by, saw ihe boy, who lived at Woodstock, suspended by his hands from a wire about 15 feet from the ground. He called to George W. Harrison, foreman of the gang, who knocked the boy to the ground with a board. Harrison said he was about to pull the boy down with his hands when warning cries from Rimbey deterred him. A lungmotor was summoned and the operators worked over Crum for more than half an hour, when Dr. Thomas F. A. Stevens, 1505 East Fort avenue, arrived and pronounced him dead. The body was taken to South Baltimore General Hospital. The boy, having finished his work for the day and waiting for quitting time, is believed to have climbed the telegraph pole and touched a portion of the wire, which had been cut. The wire is said to have contained 15,000 volts. Crum was the son of Frank L. Crum, Woodstock. 50,000 Feet of Lumber, all sizes; will sell any quantity you want. MARVIN DUTTON BEADLE vs. ADDIE CECIL BEADLE IN THE CIRCUIT COURT FOR BALTIMORE COUNTY, IN EQUITY. The object of this suit is to procure a decree for a divorce a vinculo matrimonii by the plaintiff from the defendant. The bill states that the parties were married in Joliet, Illinois, and lived together until about June or July in the year 1914; that the plaintiff has been a resident of the State of Maryland for more than two years preceding the filing of this bill, but the defendant is a non-resident and last resided in Cincinnati, Ohio; that there are two children of said marriage, to wit: Raymond Glen Beadle and Ardis Hortense Beadle, who are adults; that though the conduct of the plaintiff towards his said wife has always been kind, chaste and above reproach, yet the said Addie Cecil Beadle has without just cause abandoned and deserted the plaintiff and declared her intention to live with him no more and the abandonment is deliberate and final and has existed for more than three years and the separation of the parties is beyond any reasonable expectation of reconciliation. It is therefore ordered by the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, sitting as a Court of Equity, that the plaintiff, by causing a copy of this order to be inserted in some newspaper published in Baltimore County once in each of four successive weeks before the 15th day of September, 1924, give notice t0 said absent defendant, Addie Cecil Beadle of the object and substance of this bill and warn her to appear in this Court in person or by solicitor, On or before the 1st day of October, 1924; to show cause if any she may have, why a decree ought not to be passed as prayed.
