Loch Raven Dam at Loch Raven, this County, is one of the most picturesque places in Maryland, and is the mecca for hundreds of motorists on Sundays and holidays. Now that autumn is here, and the leaves will be tinted in various hues and the hills and dales arrayed in their finest, a trip around Lake Dulany will be most pleasing. General Nathan Towson, grandson of Ezekiel Towson, founder of the county-seat of Baltimore county, who aistinguishea himself as a great soldier at the Battle of Lake Erie during the war of 1812. To use the old saying, Towson is "as old as the hills." The first time Ezekiel Towson was granted a license to keep a tavern was in 1768 at the August term of Court and it cost him 40 pounds, no schillings and no pence. In 1791 he was granted license number 104 and records disclose the fact that in 18 00 Baltimore county had 199 taverns. W'th e-ght paid fire engine companies and 18 volunteer outfits, Baltimore county is well protected against the fire demon. VIEW OP THE GUNPOWDER VALLEY. Winding its way in and out through villages, woods and fields, the Gunpowder River, which backed up at the Loch Raven Dam supplies water for Baltimore city and Baltimore county, presents a most beautiful sight. This picture shows what is now left of the once prosperous village of Warren. The Towson National Bank is the oldest financial institution in the county. It stands imposingly opposite the Court House Park. Many substantial bridges span the winding Gunpowder, and from them a wonderful panorama view of the sur rounding country can be had. The county seat is a place of beautiful homes and 95 per cent of its residents own their own abodes. Fifteen thousand children atte nd^ the public schools here. This picture of the Towson High School shows the standard which tne Euu-^^^^^^^^^T?s hope to attain. The Second National Bank, a handsome white marble structure, built of stone quarried in this county, is admired by all visitors. The Baltimore County Bank is one of the many savings institutions throughout the county. Baltimore county people are a I thrifty lot—5 National Banks and 6 State Banks stand as mona-ments to their thriftfulness. The Towson Hotel, one of the county's oldest land marks, was built before ^the Revolutionary War. Churches of nearly all denominations may be found in the various communities.
