And why should we expect that he who will rob God of one day in seven, should be very conscientious about the right of men? Hence, Sabbath breaking, stage lines, canal boats and railroads are sure to lose through the six days all they make on the 7th. The Creator of the earth and the Governor of nations never intended that men should set any of his laws at defiance unpunished, and He takes good care that they do not. But as to the community, where one family will use the railroad to attend church, a dozen rowdies will use it for pleasure excursions. Grog shops, lager beer houses and pleasure gardens will spring up all around, and soon, as about New York, families will have to stay at home on the Sabbath and arm themselves urr<«r» V^J/^lnc. 1BS9 Vi& NorTh Howard Strcer FURS WRAPS GOWNS "It pays to buy where you can buy in safety." ?X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^X Bring Us Your Photographs and Pictures for Framing and get our unusual ideas In the Advocate of January 20, 1864, is an account of the burning of the Cathedral at Santiago, Chili, when the church was crowded with an immense mass of people. The doors were closed by the press of people in their eagerness to escape. The interior of the building was adorned with drapery, and other light inflam-able ornaments which caught fire. Flames spread rapidly through: the whole building, and soon reached the mass of human beings under it. One thousand nine hundred and fifty dead bodies, mostly ladies and children, had been recovered from the ruins. The church contained at the time over 20,000 lights, from some of which fire was communicated to the drapery of a gigantic *.}*X"X"X"X"X"?~X"X«X^mXm:» image of the Virgin Mary and various pasteboard devices. In an instant a sheet of flame rushed along the festoons of lights to the roof and directly spread to all parts of the building. The people rushed to the principal door, and it was soon blocked. Most of the men escaped by the side doors; but a few minutes elapsed ere the lights suspended so plentifully from the WILLIAM WHITNEY County Surveyor For Baltimore County COURT HOUSE. TOWSON. MD.
