THE JEFFERS* kN, TOWSON, MAiT Saturday, November 8, 1924—Page 5 (LM0©CM] \' WHAT DOES IT MATTER? It matters little where I was born, Or if my parents were rich or poor, Whether they shrank from the cold world's scorn Or walked in the pride of wealth secure; But whether I live an honest man, And hold my integrity firm in my clutch, I tell you, my brother, as plain as I can, It matters much! It matters little how long I stay In a world of sorrow, sin and care; Whether in youth I am called away, Or live till my bones of flesh are bare; But whether I do the best I can To soften the weights of adversity's touch On the faded cheek of my fellow-man, It matters much! It matters little where be my grave, If on the land or in the sea; By purling brook, 'neath stormy wave, It matters little or nought to me; But whether the angel of death comes down And marks my brow with a loving touch As one that shall wear the victor's crown It matters much! SNAPPY COMEBACK. Grateful Patient — Doctor, how can I repay you for your kindness to me? Doc—Doesn't matter, old man— check, money order or cash. BEATING THE TEMPTER. Somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains a boy started to school for the first time and his father gave him the following advice: "Boy, don't you never learn to write. All them rascals that forge people's names kin write." JUST WAIT. "I'd face a dragon to win that girl, just as knights did in days of yore. In fact, I'd welcome a dragon to face." "Your wish may be gratified. Wait until you see her mother, my boy." A SINECURE. Nora—And did you get a new place yet? Bridget—Shure I did an' a foine one it is. Nora—In what way? Bridget—On the lady's visitin' card she sez she's at home ivery Tuesday from four to six. Think of the picnic Oi'll have workin' for a lady that's only home two hours a week! CAUTIOUS. It was at the altar. "Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife; to have and to hold, forsaking all others—" "One moment, Parson," said the groom-to-be; and stepping aside, he bent over a gentleman in the second row and held a whispered conference. "All right, go ahead," he said, when he returned. "I just wanted to put that up to my attorney." CHEAP COAIi. Ike—Does your father have to pay much for coal? Mike—Not a cent! We live near the railroad track and he makes faces at the engineers. MAMMA SURPRISED AGAIN. Marjory—Mamma, were you at home when I was born? Mother—No, darling, I was at grandma's, in the country. Marjory — Wasn't you awfully s'prised when you heard about it? $15,000 DAMAGE SUIT FILED AGAINST J. EDW. LYNCH. A suit for $15,000 damages was filed in the Circuit Court at Towson against J. Edward Lynch on behalf of Francis Halley, Julia Halley and Margaret Halley, infant children of John Halley, deceased. Mr. Halley, it is claimed, was killled as the result of the automobile of the defendant colliding with a machine in which the former was riding. Attorney William H. Lawrence appears for the plaintiffs. The accident occurred on April 6, 1924, on Eastern avenue. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. FOR SALE. The object of this suit is to procure a divorce a vinculo matrimonii by the plaintiff from the defendant. The bill states that the parties were married on January 31, 1921 at Towson, Maryland, by a regularly ordained minister of the gospel; that no children were born as the result of said marriage; that the parties continued to live together until on or about'May 7, 1921, when the defendant without just cause or provocation abaandoned and deserted the plaintiff and declared her intention to live with him no longer; that said abandonment and degertion has continued uninterruptedly, for more than three years, is deliberate and final and the separation of the parties beyond any reasonable hope of a reconciliation; that the conduct of the plaintiff toward the defendant has always been that of a kind, affectionate and faithful husband and above reproach; that the plaintiff is a resident of Baltimore County, Maryland, and has resided therein for more than two years last past, but that the defendant is a nonresident of said County and State, her last known address being Roxbery, Mass. It is thereupon ordered by the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, in Equity, this 16th day of October, 1924, that the Plaintiff by causing a copy of this order to be inserted in some newspaper published in Baltimore County, once in each of four successive weeks before the 17th day of November, 1924, -give notice to the said absent defendant, Marie Sperling, of the object and substance of this bill and warn her to be and appear in this Court, in person or by solicitor, On or before the 3d day o* December, 1924; to show cause, if any she may have, why a Secree ought not to be passed as prayed.
