through the marts of trade demanding new winter wraps. To provide same, much sleight-of-hand is being worked both by purchasers and sellers.
Seventh avenue from the Pennsylvania Station to Times Square has magicians whose broken-nailed, dye-stained fingers do more magic than j Houdini, Keller and Hermann com-| bined. They are the fur workers: and they are busy, for New York i has as many fur-clad barbarians to- j day as ever came out of Gaul to the conquest of Rome.
The fur-bearing animals have not changed. The mink, the fisher, the marten, the ermine, the seal and the muskrat all wear the same coverings as formerly, but one would never know it. The art of the new fur coats lies not in the skins but in the
working of them.
Models are little changed, so far as des'gns are concerned. But the beautiful and artistic effects of this season are gained by the wielding of the dye pot, the steel brush and the furrier's knife. In addition various furs are being combined in a way never before seen.
For example, one of the latest importations of a furrier, who maintains shops here and in Paris, consists of a cape of seal which covers the shoulders and falls as low as the hips, fullness being given by godets. At the hips this joined by a skirt section of alternate brown and silver gray muskrat, the juncture being effected in deep scallops. The garment is completed by a broad double collar of the muskrat, which extends in long bands all the way to the hem in front.
It is a blessing that the rabbit is a prolific animal. As long as they continue to propagate the supply of ermine will be well nigh inexhaustible. And it need be, for ermine forms either the basis or the trimming of a large portion of the evening wraps. In most cases these are

d in both horizontal and v< tical bands, the long lines of th present-day silhoutte being stressed by the latter, while the former is used for collars, cuffs and hems.
Leopard cat is by all odds the most popular of the flat furs at present, its vivid coloring lending itself readily to artistic trimmings of other furs. The success of a leopard cat coat, however, depends on whether the hair stays in or comes off. Frequently those who brush against the wearer find vagrant hairs clinging to them for days afterward. Skunk is a favorite trimming for these garments.
In some of the lighter wraps the furrier does not wait for the hair to come off. He removes it and transfers it by an operation closely resembling skin grafting to a silk base. This preserves the appearance of the fur, but lightens the garment materially and is supposed to exempt it from the attacks of moths. That sort of skin grafting has stripped the hide from many a pocket-book, but the feminine surgeons don't call it that. They call it "persuading papa."
There are three coats now in course of construction in New-York which will cost between $20,000 and $60,000 each. The two most expensive are evening wraps and only one is suitable for daytime wear. Can you imagine the sensation of leaving one of these coats with the checkroom bandit of a cabaret or night club in the Roaring Forties?

IT'S A SORRY OLD TIME FOR AIR. GOBBLER.
THE Gobbler sits high on his perch and warbles mournfully—while man—gluttonous man—4ooks up at him and chuckles with glee.
A turkey that is born of an egg in the springtime and en-dureth all the ills of baby-hood hath no assurance that it willl live to celebrate its first anniversary.
But the subject is painful— not only to the turkey but also to "Mose"—for if he had to kill lthe noble bird he would never have one on his table at Thanksgiving.
A subject that is more interesting is the big bargains that "Mose" is giving you in this Thanksgiving Sale.
It is not cold storage stuff —goods that were packed away in camphor balls last season — but everything is clean, fresh stock—just out of the workrooms—the best suits and overcoats you ever put on your hack—and "Mose" is going to give them to you for this Thanksgiving at a very Iowr prive.
Thanksgivin
Bigger Than He Ever Gave Before—Because He Has Been So Favored And Has So Much To Be Thankful For That He Feels He Should Share His Rich Blessings With His People.

"MOSES KAHN OF OLD TOWN'
BUT IT'S A HARVEST TIME FOR MR. MAN.
OSE" wants to teU you 'Kakn's Good Klothes"—his Suits and Overcoats and Trousers—are the best in the world for the money.
There's as much difference between the garments "Mose" makes up riglit at home in his workrooms and the "Cheap John" stuff that comes from foreign (out of town) sweatshops as there is between day and night.
"Kahn's Good Klothes" are honest, for "Mose's" good name and reputation are woven into the warp and woof of every garment—and "Mose" guarantees them and his guarantee is as good as a Government bond.
"Mose" says if anything yj>u urchase from him is not as good as he represents it he wants you to bring it back and get your money.
"Your good money's worth, or your good money back," is "Mose's" motto.
