William D. Tipton. "I hope to spend "$10,000 on Logan Field, Dundalk, this year," Brig. Gen. Milton A. Reckord declared at the annual reunion and dinner of the Twenty-ninth Division Air Servce. "I hope to spend $2,000 or $3,000 yearly for the next three years," he continued. "In the next three years we can count reasonably on an expenditure at Logan Field of between $15,000 and $16,000. About $6,000 will be spent for the new hangars, the foundations of which are already laid, and the new administration, building. The remainder will be spent for leveling the field and for such improvements as become necessary from time to time. "I want to give credit where credit is due. Capt William D. Tipton, almost single-handed, did the work that enabled us to get a five-year lease on Logan Field and lay the foundations of the new hangars. Major George L. Jones, who organized the unit and who was its first commanding officer, spoke in high praise of its efficiency. The Maryland air unit, he said, is the best National Guard Air Service squadron in the United States. Other speakers were Major Paul V. Burwell and Col. Orval P. Berry, formerly private at Camp Holabird, so that he could hurry to the bedside of his dying mother at Kingston, Pa. When routine of securing the usual papers from Washington threatened delay, emergency orders were obtained from the War Department by wireless. ----------o---------- AGED CATONSVILLE WOMAN DIES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME. Mrs. Sarah Kenny, eighty-four, widow of William T. Kenney, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Frank Schafer, 116 Forest Drive, Summit Park, Catonsville. ----------o---------- DEATH CLAIMS WINFIELD C. LOCKARD. OYSTER SUPPER AT TOWSON M. P. CHURCH MAROH 6TH. Under the auspices of the Towson M. P. Church, an oyster supper will be held on Thursday, March 6th, from 6 to 8 P. M. ----------o---------- DEAD POETESS, WHO LIVED ALL ALONE AT SHAMBURG, LAID TO REST. Winfield C. Lockard, farmer, and father of Patrolman Clarence Lockard, of Reisterstown, died at his home near Reisterstown. He was 64 years old. Besides his widow, Mrs. Mary A. Lockard, Mr. Lockard is survived by five daughters and another son. The funeral was held at 10 A. M. Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Charles Roemer, at Owings Mills. There were services at All Saints' Church, Reisterstown. Burial was in All Saints' Cemetery. POSSE NABS SUSPECT IN HOLD-UP. Heavily armed men, led by Deputy Sheriff Vincent, arrested Craig Hayes, thirty, of Norfolk, Va., near Poplar Station as a suspect in the shooting of Charles Babka, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad crossing watchman at Clayton, Harford county. Two other armed bands scoured the scene of the crime for another assailant. Hayes, who was taken to the Essex Police Station, admitted being nearby, when the shooting occurred. Railroad watchmen and detectives were sent to Essex in an effort to identify him. Babka, who was ordered to give up his money and then shot in the stomach and beaten into unconsciousness while he tried to draw his gun, was taken to University Hospital by Deputy Sheriff Thomas J. Greene, Jr., of Baltiomre county. His condition is critical. Hayes was first seen walking the tracks toward Baltimore. When he) reached Cowenton station he detour-ed and then resumed his walk. The same procedure, with the members tff the posse following, was repeated at Poplar. ----------o---------- COUNTY PROPERTY SALE ASKED. Lillian Ruth Mann and others filed a bill in the Circuit Court at Towson against Barbara Marcella Brown and others. The court is asked to direct a sale of certain real estate in the Third Distsrict. The property in question is that which the late Lillian Gore Mann formerly owned. Suit was filed in order that the proceeds from the property may be divided among her heirs. DURANT and STAR CARS ¦ Miss Lucy Mitchell, poetess, who died Thursday at Shamburg, near] Parkton, was buried in Loudon Park Cemetery. She had lived alone for a number of years at Shamburg. After the death of all the members of her family she resided alone. She spent much of her time writing poetry and working in the garden that surrounded her cottage. For more than 20 years she contributed verses sto the Springfield Republican. Miss Mitchel was born in Cambridge, Dorchester county, 75 years ago. Her father was Capt Richard Mitchell, who before the Civil War operated a shipyard at Cambridge. WHITE HALL, WOMAN RETURNS FROM VISIT WITH RELATIVES IN CALVERT COUNTY. Mrs. W. Evans Andersosn, of White Hall, has returned from a several days' visit to her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dorsey Gray, of Prince Frederick, Calvert county.
