Also with this lower price you get an even more attractive Coach body and a six cylinder motor built on the principle of the famous Hudson Super-Six. It continues Essex qualities of economy and reliability, known to 135,000 owners. It adds a smoothness of performance which heretofore was exclusively Hudson's. Both cars are alike in all details that count for long satisfactory service at small operating cost. You will like the new Essex in the nimble ease of its operation. Gears shift quietly. Steering is like guiding a bicycle, and care of the car calls for little more than keeping it lubricated. That, for the most part, is done with an oil can. The chassis design lowers the center of gravity, giving greater comfort and safety, at all speeds, on all roads. You will be interested in seefng how this is accomplished. Greater fuel economy is obtained. The car is lighter, longer and roomier. The principal one of these is economy and reduced taxation. I favor Secretary Mellon's plan to lessen the amounts of the Federal ncome tax law. Two great causes are holdback American business, agriculture and individual prosper" ity. The causes are lack of a European market for surplus supplies and the burden of Federal taxation. One of the contributory causes of this Federal invasion of the pocketbook is the maintenance of enormous and growing overhead of bureaus and commissions. Prohibition enforcement is only one instance of the encroachment of Federal power upon the functions of the States. Manhood demands that we resist unwarranted encroachment by the Federal Government upon the sovereign rights of our State and the guaranteed liberties of our people. It is my purpose to ask you not to enact a State enforcement act in Maryland unless and until the people have had the opportunity to decide for themselves at the polls. The principle of liberty and freedom calls for an end to centralization in government. ("ranting of Federal aid generally means the taking of Federal control in a manner which could not be done directly under the Constitution. It is inherently the State's right and duty to see to the education of its own boys and girls, uncontrolled and un-trammelcd by outside influences. My belief is the State must give aid to colleges to help them become self-supporting. I believe the "neighborhood court" feature of the system of police magistrates is in the interests of the masses of the people.
