IT is now fully ascertained that the inaccuracy of American Editions has hitherto ope-
rated greatly to diminish their value, and to deprive them of the patronage of men who were
best able to suppoit their inter-.sts. To those who examine this subject with the attention it
really deserves, it will evidently appear that there has been too much cause for censure. It
will also appear that in some instances, where great pretensions have been made to accu-
racy, there exists the greatest cause for censure. There might be several instances given of
this kind, though it were to be wishedthey did not exist. Considering, therefore, that such
is the fact; considering- also that disppointments may have begotten a still greater want of con-
fidence in the public mind, and that notwithstanding, there exists a sincere and general wish
to patronise American Publications, when they are deserving, Win. P. Farrand begs leave to
propose the following plan for publishing CORRECT EDITIONS OF LAW BOOKS. He
begs leave also lo solicit the patronage of gentlemen, of the bar in aid of his undertaking, and
to express his hopes that the plan be has adopted, which involves an unremitting attention,
will be received as a satisfactory voucher for the accuracy and value of his editions.
TO THE~PUBLIC.
ffj" WM. P. FARRAND gives this public notice that two Proof-Sheets of his Lav/
Books are put up for public examination ; one at his own Counting-Hoiise, the other at the
City Library, and that on application at his counting-house he will pay one dollar for every er-
or discovered in them, which alters the sense ofthe passage, or for every erroneous reference.
N. B- 1. The London editions from which we print are to be taken as standards, though
they are very carefully read and numerous errors are corrected before tliey are given as copies
to print from. 2 Punctuation is so various that the use of points, said to be erroneous, under
the full point or period, is not to be considered as subjecting the publisher to the above penal-
ty, though errors of punctuation will be guarded against with the greatest care, and readers
will confer a favor on the p pointing out any error of tins kind, should such in any
instance escape the proof-readers.

Mills for S?lc
TXv^'E highly reputed a it valuable Mills,
Bulltermilk'Faiis, with thirty acres of land,
situated on the Banks of Hudson river,
state of New-York, and about sixty miles from
the city. 'Phis property comprehends two
Grist Mills, with five >ain of stones on the
most modern and approved principle, together
with a complete set of machinery, such as
leevators for wheat and flour, conveyors, hop-
per bags and kreens, agreeably to the iatest
improvements of Evans's system. The Bolt-
ing Cloths are new, and the wdiole in excellent
repair. Also, a Sam-Mill and two IMietling-
Huuses, commanding a beautiful and 1 •mantic
view of the Hudson and West-Point; a Coo-
ters'-Shop and Dtvellwg, together with other
out-houses and conveniences necessary to ren-
der the establishment complete. Likewise, a
fall of about thirty feet high, unoccupied, im-
mediately above the present 'lulls, extremely
well calculated for a Paper-Mill, or any other
factory, without in the least interfering with
the oilier mills. The advantages attending
this property are numerous, and of a nature
which rarely characterize singular establish-
ments. Situated in the vicinity of so impott-
ant a market as New-York, and on so respect-
able a navigation as Hudson river, the only
route for the produce of the Northern and
Western World, a facility of purchasing the
wheat at the mill, and of sending the produce
to market, is here experienced to an extent
which no other situation can boast of. From
40 to 50,000 bushels of wheat has been manu-
factured annually between March and January,
and from 60 to 70,000 could with equal ease
be ground were the winter season excluded,
which of late years has been so mild that the
interruption of the navigation has seldom been
of long continuance.
The security and convenience of a sloop of
any burthen Wing so contiguous to t»e mill
that the elevators discharge the cargo where-
ver the Miller wishes to deposite it, and the
facility of loading tho fiour on borrd immedi-
ately from the Mill door, so materially dimi-
nishes labor and expedites business that one
vessel willbe found sufficient to serve the fac-
tory, and perform more than two ordinarily
do in such employ.
Also, a Tract of 1000 acresof Land, situat-
ed about 60 chains from theanoTW Mills, well
covered with timber, on which is an excellent
iron mine and through which the Buttermilk-
Fall stream passes, affording several situations
or erecting of iron works.
The estate will be sold on reasonable terms,
and property in or near the city of Baltimore
will betaken at a fail* valuation for one half si
the amount if required.
