Notice.
I have seen, in the Federal Gazette, a No-
tice, signed by Mr. John Croxai.l, which I
suppose to have been published in one of that
gentleman's lunar spells, or he would not have
closed his little notice in so short a way. I
mean, as usual, to be moderate. I call on the
gentleman to prove any attempt on my part to
injure him, and particularly to shew reason
for supposing that.I would collect money due
to him, when be knows that I refused, months
ago, to receive money for lutn.
I could wish that the poor old man had not
"been so much agitated, on being fairly detect-
ed in improper conduct; which will soon ap-
pear, (with proper vouchers, if necessary,) in
my answerto. his" Further Notice."

" Boulogne exhibits a singular appearance
to those who haye-b'oen accustomed to recon-
noitre it during the present war. Not long
since, it was the depot of all the best and
finest troops in Bonaparte's army ; now, there
is not an appearance'6f a formed soldier in
the place ; merely a very few conscripts of
the department. Lately, the position was
deemed of the utmost importance, and shells
were thrown, even on the possibility of their
reaching our cruiz.ers ; now, the batteries,
whenever they have occasion to work thenr
are manned by a few sailors from the flotilla,
which is at prest-nt dismantled.

The Court Gazette contains to-day the
following news of Turkey : Osman, pacha
of Widdin, known under the name of Pass-
wan Oglou, known for his military talents,
his enterprising spirit, and the resistance he
opposed in his city 'to the united forces of
the Ottoman empire, died the 5th of Febru-
ary. Russia is delivered by his death of a
formidable enemy.
Two of the principal officers of Passwan
Oglou are spoken of as his successors in the
government of Widdin. The one is named
Mehmish Aga ; the other Molla, known by
the cruelties he committed in the time of
the serious differences of Passwan Oglou
with the Porte and the neighboring pachas.
These two pretenders have each a numerous
party, and have come already to blows. Ku-
sanzi Ali arrived before Widdin with his ker-
sales, a few days before the death of Pass-
wan Oglou, and asked leave to enter the
town, but was refused admittance. It is not
known where he directed his march.

A dreadful misfortune has just happened
to the city of Leydsea, the seat Of the prin-
cipal university of the kingdom of Holland
it was yesterday partly destroyed and laid,
waste, and covered with mourning, by the
explosion of a boat laden with 350 barrels of
powder, which was passing through one of
its canals, called the Rapenburg, about 4
o'clock in the evening. The number of the
victims of this accident has not been ascer-
tained ; but it appears to be very considera-
ble. Among the killed are men whose loss'
is highly deplorable for that interesting city,
the centre of the sciences and erudition, such
as pi.-iessors John Ltjrac and Ancis Kluit ;
a great nimjber of young students of the
college called tot nud -van't Alganger,, cpv.

shaken houses, which threaten to fall in

family have been fortunate enough to be dug
out of the ruins. The king immediately,
