PHILADELPHIA, 8fay S.
From Louden pap-¦r.t, ro M-.rrk 21, rec.i'crd
at Philadelphia.
A temporary suspension of hostilities
jteerus to nave taken place—:a least tram the
Stht to the 12th nit. nothing: had occurred.
Tilt) article dated Thorn, FeO- 13, is evident-
ly calculated to keep tin- people of that city
quiet, who are, no doubt, as uneasy under
tile French yoke as the LlliabitautSpf Posell
and Berlin ; of course it would be vain to
(expect any authentic intelligence f'om theie
places. We cannot look: tor the liberty of
ill*- press where the freedom of speech is in-
j, ..icted, Statesman.
If indeed, contrary to expectation, the par-
liament should determine to support the pre-
sent ministers, and oppose the new ones,
his iTir.jesl.y will then do that which his pre-
rogative i liable-, bin to do--he will dissolve
3t| and make an appeal to his people.
It seems too as if some wish was entertain-
ed of refusing the supplies—Unfomiuately,
Jfowever for those who may have such pa-
ttiotic wishes about the supplies, it is now
too late to slop tiiem.
Now that the present ministers are going
out, we snail, no doubt, hear again all those
reports and tales which were SO often circu-
lated when the Foxifs were in opposition ;
such as the indisposition of the king, dis-
contents in Ireland, he. We wish, there-
fore to prepare the public for them. Indeed
this syseeai is already begun.
We are told, too, in the Placemen's Chro-
nicle, tli.U the change in the ir.i.n.-hy will
be of great use |o Bonaparte, and that it
¦will be one of these accidents which, in his
greatest difficulties, have occurred to extri-
cate him. Of all the delusions practised by
the e-pudug ministry) the greatest is, their
wishing to induce the public to believe that
they are looked upon with such confidence
by foreign powers, and that they possess it
in (i. unprecedented degree.' [Coulter.~]

" By the last mail, I received;.! letter from
our friend general Fie.dlay, receiver of pub-
lic monies at Cincinnati; informing me that
on the 11th of March, he discovered he
was robbed of public money to a large
amount. The next morning Cfearles Brit-
tain, his yellow servant, set out for Lexing-
ton, which induced a suspicion that he was
guilty. He was immediately pursued and
taken-he acknowledged the fact—said
Charles Vatti.r was concerned with him,
and that they had been robbing his master
for three yi aTS. Vatlier was taken and con-
fined in heavy irons. He has sent to Ken-
tucky, to employ the ablest council at that
bar, and has offered them six thousand dol-
lars to clear him. This I think they can-
not do, for the evidence against him will be
very strong. Seven thousand dollars, in
bank notes, were found in Vattiesr's trunk,
all of wdrich were indorsed by the cie.ks m
