FOR THE FEDERAL CJAZKTTE.
TO THE CITIZENS OF BALTIMORE.
Fellow-C' itixens,
IT has been announced by advertisement,
that Subscriptions for a Stock, in order to
make a Turnpike Road from Yorktown, in
Pennsylvania, to the state line, in a direction
towards the city of Baltimore, as also for a
Turnpike Road from Baltimore towards York-
town, to unite with the said road, are this
day to be opened at Wm. Evans's tavern,
and to be continued open for two days long-
er unless sooner subscribed. Are you aware
of the very important commercial advantages
to be derived- to our city from the making
of such a road, to say nothing of the interest
allowed upon, your money vested in the
stock I The road from the city of Baltimore
to the Pennsylvania line will not exceed 30
miles, and from thence to the Conawago
Falls, in the Susquehannah river, where it is
contempr.ned to carry it, 27 miles more ;
making together a distance of only 57 miles
to a point where produce to a vast amount is
brought from theboatable waters of the Sus-
quehannah, in order to be transported over
land to Philadelphia. Consult your maps,
and you will readily see, that the local situ-
ation of our city claims the -whole of this
trade, and will unquestionably command it,
provided we have but public spirit enough
to subscribe for the stock. It will also be
seen, that such a road will give us a prefer-
ence in trade to a section of at least one-
third of the state of Pennsylvania, and this
too of the richest part of that state. Shall
we then be so blind to our interests, as to
neglect such incalculable advantages ? No !
On the contrary, let us embrace the oppor-
tunity which is now presented to us, with
an avidity which shall discover to oar-jeal-
ous neighbors that we are no longer disposed
to be quirt spectators of their multiplied arti-
fices to deprive us of that trade which is ours
by nature. A BALTIMOREAN.

racoa. The privateer had arrived but no ap-
pearance of the ship on the 19th ult. It was
reported she was recaptured by the French.
The annual Spanish ship, from Manilla to

The following paragraph appears in a
Nantz Gazette, of the 3d of February, taken
from a Paris paper : —
"We are assured, that the government of
Spain,- and the United State?, have actually
come to a good understanding On all the
points which divided thein ; that the cession;
of Florida is agreed to ; that the price is
fixed ; and that nothing remains to be settled
but the mode of payment."
Just as we were putting our paper to press,
captain Smith arrived from Rotterdam, whence
he sailed March 23, but unfortunately bro't
no papers'. He mentions as the report of.
the day, that Bonaparte was retreating;
