Arrived on Monday, the private vessel of
war Mayflower, Geo. Johnson, commander,
with the Spanish brigantineMaria, her prize.
The Maria was one of a fleet ef 27 Spa-
nish merchant vessels proceeding along the
coast of Cuba, under convoy of several
gunboats,, and having put into the port of
Barney, on that coast, she was cut out by
the May-Flower, and brought to this port
for adjudication. She has on board about
450 boxes of sugar.

The Secretary of Wai was expected to
arrive in this city last night, and the Secre-
tary of the Treasury is expected to-day.

THESE curious Ammals, lately imported
from Surat, in Asia, are the first that ever
reached any part of this continent. On their
arrival they wire not a year old They are
nine fei 1 longhand three lectin height. Their
crowns designate them as royal, and peculiar,
to Asia. When full grown, their bulk is tre-
mendous, much superior in size to a lion, and
of prodigious strength. Their color is a bright
yellow, Beautifully marked with long stripes of
black, which run in the same direction as their
ribs, with oihrrs across their thighs.-------The>
Tigers in Asia are tiie scourge of the conn vy ;
insidious, bloodthirsty and malevolent, pre-
ferring the human flesh for their sustenapce
to that ef wild beasts. They lurk among the
bushes, and bound 011 their prey : if they suc-
ceed, and are undisturbed, they plunge their
heads into the bodies ofthe animals, up to their
eyes, as if it were to satiate themselves with
blood, before they tear them to pieces It
attacks the lion or elephant, and is truly said
to Be the most powerful animal in the wi.r!d.
