Willam Carman
HAS opened his SLATE YARD, on Spear's
wharf, below Smith & Hooper's Bake-house,
for the sale of SLATE, of which he has a
good supply in readiness for the present sea-
son. The quality of the Slate is such that
little need be said of it—general satisfaction
has been experienced by those who have us-
ed it.
Many buildings in this city are covered with
Slate that is really rotting, owing to the quan-
tity of clay naturally mixed with it ; bu. the
slate here advertised is of the most durable
kind, in consequence of the Iron contained in
it Such persons as see it their interest to
use an article of acknowledged superiority,
may depend on havingtiieir orders punctually
executed, as W. C. is determined to receive
no more than he can fulfil in time agreeably
to contract.

The prevailing disposition to encourage the
progress of Literature- -the peculiar favor
which St. Man's College has enjoyed—and
the many splendid chances offered to adven-

A Proclamation.
WHEREAS it hath been represented to
me, on oath, that the Saw-Mill ot James Car-
roll, esq. erected for the purpose ol cutting
Mahogany, near the city of Baltimore, was,
on the night of Monday, the eighth inst. con-
sumed by fire : And whereas it has been also
represented that it is feared this villainy has
been intentionally perpetrated by some wicked
incendiary or incendiaries : And whereas ap-
plication has been made tome to issue a Pro-
clamation offering a pardon to any person, be-
ing an accomplice, who shall discover his or
her associate or associates ; I have therefore
thought proper, in pursuance ol the bowers
vested in me by law, to issue this my procla-
mation, thereby offering full and free pardon
to any person, being an accomplice in the
commission of the said crime, who shall dis-
covert lie perpetrator or perpetrators thereof, so
thattjii-y or any ofthem be brought to justice
Given under my hand and the seal of the state ot
Maryland, this fifteenth day of June, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seven, and of the Independence of the

lie has a bright mulatto woman at Alexan-
dria, called Rachel, for a wife, and has tour
or fivn children by her—the woman is or
was the property oi" Miss Contee. I cannot
describe his dress as he had a variety of
good clothes. Any person apprehending the
said negro and securing him in jail so that I
get him again, shall receive if taken within
ten miles from home Ten dollars, if forty
miles Thirty Dollars, and if a greater dis-
tance the above reward and all reasonable
expences if brought home.

Ranaway from the subscriber, living in Bal-
timore, on the 28th ult. ayellowMAN known
by the name of DICK, he calls himself
Richard Barnett. He is stout made, about
5 feet 4 or 5 inches high ; 21 or 22 years of
age, of a pleasing countenance ; his teeth are
broad and white in front. He was bred to
the brick making business, and is acquainted
with all its branches. He has taken a num-
ber of Clothes with him, amongst which are,
one fine blue Cloth Coat, with yellow buttons,
one yellow nankeen upper jacket, trimmed
all round with blue tape ; one or two pair of
nankeen overhauls ; one tarpolin Hat; one
fine furr ditto ; the other part of his clothes
cannot be so easily described. It is suppos-
ed that he ,is gone towards Philadelphia, as
he was seen on the Philadelphia road the
same 4ay that he ranaway, and it is suppos-
ed that he has procured a-,fbrged pass. I
will give 20 dollars if ti.ken within 10 miles,
and 30 dollars if taken above 10 miles, and
within the state of Maryland ; and the above
reward if taken out of the state, and secur-
ed in Baltimore jail, and all reasonable charges.
