Just received from Amsterdam, & for sale at the Book and Stationary Store of COLE isf I. BONS lL, 174, Market street, a lew co- pies of the following described Allegorical Picture in Memory of PIUS VI. Gentlemen desirous of possessing a copy, should lose no time—the price being very low it is expected they will be speedily dis- I posed of. " A revered pontiff, a magnanimous sove- reign—a noble and affecting spectacle to earth and heaven ; he honored at once, by his trans- cendant virtues, misfortune, age, the throne and the altar." L'Abbe Deliile. This Picture, designsd by 1. Kuyper, paint- ed by A. de Lelie, and engraven by L Port- man, represents the interior of a temple, in the midst ot which is placed a sepulchre, on which is raised the bust ot Pius VI. Behind the se- pulchre appears Time ; he is surrounded by the dark clouds of oblivion, in which he seems desirous of enveloping the bust. But the e- vents which have signalised the epoch of Pus the Sixth's reign, and their influence on the destiny of that pontiff, are too remarkable ; his virtues, and above all, his patience and re- signation truly christian, form too great a con- trast with the immorality of his age, to permit oblivion ever lb be his lot. Under the figure of a woman transported with a holy zeal, Me- mory, who iniinortalir.es great men, arrests the menacing arm of Time ; whilst on one side of the bust, History, in an attiti de of reflection, fixes upon this scene a penetrating eye, and consecrates in her annals the events of the reign o! Pius VI. In the front of the picture is a female figure, absorbed in profound grief, and reclining on the emblemat.cal signs of the p ntifical dignity. On the opposite side is represented the church, under the emblem ol two women, phe ge in affliction. N earth* bust, and before an altar, on which ii cense is burning, Religion, alwa} s ealoi, is bib} in con- soling and encouraging thein Connoisseurs will easily perceive, that be- sides the beauties of the detail, and the ex- pression suitable to each figure, this Picture has at the same time tlie mlrit'Ol presenting all parts of the allegory in so perfect an that, without fatiguing the eye of the n hid, it equally cb-un* bwh the oas and the other.
