The following is the substance of the Assay Law: Sil. a'loy All manufactured silver ware over 5 Uoz 1 o: penny >yts. offei ed for sale, to be stamped by the assay master With the city stamp, offenders violating the layv to pay 100 d Is. or 6 months imprisonment,and for- feiture of the article offc ed for sale. Every silversmith or worker in silver, to send from time to time, with the sil- ver to be stamped, a note in writing, con- taining the day of the month, year, chris- tian and surname of the worker, and place of abode, to be entered on the as- sa) er's book, which must be left month- ly at the Mayor's office for inspection, under penalty of 25 dolls, or imprison- ment not more than six months, or until paid. Si!, alloy Standard silver, Troy wt. 11 lbs. l lb fine for forging city stamp and making use there- of, 500 dolls, afld imprisonment for not less than one nor more than live years, and until the fine be paid, ii¯ he penitentiary. Assayer's fees-six cents per ounce of Silver. A layer to refuse his stamp, until fees be paid, and the silver be marked with the initials of the maker' name
