Maryland Joins Free Lynching League Two hundred white citizens of Salisbury, Maryland's lynch town, lynched and burned a man on December 4, 1931. Since then we have had numerous investigations, but no arrests and no grand jury indictments. Maryland has set its stamp of approval on lawlessness and mob violence. Dixie, with its record of 5,000 unpunished lynchings welcomes another "free" state into the lynching league.
