Black Police Would Prevent Lynch-ings and Protect Women. To the Editor of the AFRO: It seems that the majority of your readers can think of nothing but preachers and bishops to talk about. That Is all right at times, but when our own colored men are in grave danger of being lynched and some killed by the wayside for nothing at all, by white people of high and low standing mostly ignorant whites, I ask you how long must we stand by and se them kiled this way? If the white officers of the law can't give us fair protection in our homes and travel, the least the states could dao is give us colored officers that will give us protection. If a white officer or sheriff is afraid to protect his prisoners from mob vio-dence, then give us one that ain't this goes for the jailer and hospital and court attendants too, to make it more plainer, give us policemen of our own race. They will protect us from lynchers. JOHN TIDWELL. Norfolk, Va.
