| member of that order sick upon the streets, or in need of immediate assistance, he be sent to the nearest hospital, where free beds will be provided for use of the Royal Arcanum fraternity in such emergencies. The Board told the delegation that it saw no objection to compliance with the request made, and that when the Royal Arcanum had completed its arrangements for the free beds at the hospitals if the matter is brought to the attention of the Board instructions in accordance with the wishes of the Royal Arcanum will be issued. Poor. Money left for Distribution to. $100. A communication, as follows, was received from the Marshal, read and ordered held over:- " January 22nd. 1903. To The Honorable, The Board of Police Commissioners. Gentlemen:- Captain Joseph Shinnick, representing the Pilot Association of Baltimore, Md. called at this office to-day and left $100. for distribution amongst the poor of this city. I suggested that the money be placed in the hands of the Association for the Improvement of the Poor, which Captain Shinnick absolutely refused to do, stating that the Pilot Association desired this amount distributed to the poor of this city through the Police Department. The amount referred to is now in my possession awaiting instructions from your Honorable Hoby. Very respectfully, THOMAS P. FARNAN, Marshal." See Exhibit No. 925. Petition.
