In the matter of complaint preferred against Detective Thomas A.Berney, Southern District, as referred to in the proceedings of January 26th ,1903, a report, as follows, was received from the Marshal, read and ordered filed. See Exhibit No. 930. January 30th,1903. To The Honorable, The Board of Police Commissioners. Gentlemen:- Referring to the attached anonymous communication in which it is alleged that Detective Thomas A. Berny,Southern District,was in the saloon of A.Stockley, 1103 Light street, January 21st,1903,in a drunken condition, ©X>C • f GX>C • I had before me and interviewed the following,and append herewith their statements: Albert A.Stockley,Jr.,1103 Light st., Albert A.Stockley,Sr.,1103 Light St., Squire W.H.Robertson,Southern District, Captain George G.Henry, South.District. After careful perusal of the attached statements it is my judgment that there is no foundation whatever in the alleged charge. Very respectfully, Thomas P.Paman, Marshal. William Preston,Colored. Statement as to alleged assault by Officer Timothy E, Murphy, N. E. District. A report was received from Captain Charles Gittings, Northeastern District,through the hands of the Marshal, upon the subject of an alleged assault upon a colored prisoner by the name of William Preston by Officer Timothy E.Murphy, wagonman,Northeastern District,January 26th,1903; the said report containing statements of Officers Charles A.Kahler and Timothy E.Murphy,denying the allegation; the said report also accompanied by statement of Captain Gittings that he has been unable to obtain a statement from William Preston because of the refusal of the Warden of the Jail to permit the prisoner to be interviewed at present. It wa3 ordered that the matter be held in abeyance pending further developments. See Exhibit No. 931. Carriage__ Purchase of . Upon the recommendation of the Lieutenant of Blounted Police, it
