| . The vote upon repairs to Eastern District Station-house, as above, was as follows:- President Upshur.......Yea, Commissioner Morris....Yea. (Recommendation filed as Exhibit No. 934.) Gambling. The Marshal was called before the Board and his attention called to publication in the Baltimore Herald of February 1st.,in which it is stated that gambling places were starting up throughout the City. He was instructed to give the matter his especial attention to see that the laws upon the subject of gambling are not violated. He was also instructed to ascertain the name of the person who gave the Herald information in the matter and cite him before the Grand Jury. The Marshal told the Board that he had already sent to the Herald and was by the manager thereof told that information upon which the article was based had been received from persons who said they were engaged in the gambling business. The Marshal was directed to secure the name of the Herald's informant, if possible, and cite h:m before the Grand Jury. The Marshal told the Board further that he had been giving the subject of gambling particular attention, and that he had succeeded in driving out of the Central District one Patrick Plannery from Payette street, in the Central District, and would follow him wherever he attempted to locate in the City. Complaint vs. Mounted Officer Taylor. An unsigned communication was received stating that Mounted Officer Taylor is in the habit of spending a great deal of his time at 62 Walpert street, talking to a Mrs. Seibert, etc. It was ordered that this communication be referred to the Marshal for his attention. |
