| STATEMENT—Continued. No. of voucher. In whose name charged. Amount disallowed. Particulars, and reasons for disallowance. Adjutant L. Taylor S18G 00 Tliadeus Jackson 49 50 i"tol4 Sundrv Musicians 139 80 This amount is for sundry items embraced in an account, made out by Adjutant Taylor, lor the 5th regiment of cavalry, amounting to S323 75, of which the Committee of Supplies allowed and paid him S245 75. The items here disallowed were, tor the purchase of a horse, payments to a trumpeter, 6cc. for which there were no receipts produced from the individuals, nor is it stated for what, or for whose use, the horse was purchased, or the after disposition made of him ; nor is it stated whether the payments to thc_ trumpeter were for his services, or for other purposes. For these reasons, the S 186 were disallowed. For hay and quarters for horse anil horsemen, on the nights of the 15th to 23d August, (813, consisting of from seven to nineteen men. The horsemen thus supplied do not appear to have been called into the service of the United States in the above period. The account was, therefore, disallowed, as a charge not admissible against the United States. These vouchers, No. 9 to 14, arc for payments to sundry hired music, at the rate of four and five dollars per day. amounting to S 234. The regulations existing at the time authorized an allowance for hired music at the rate of fifteen dollars per month, and one ration per day. The difference between the sum paid by the committee and the sum allowable by the regulations is the amount above disallowed. |
