| 42 [Doc. No. 39.] No. 1. & 2. To the Committee of Supplies. Gentlemen : Deliver to tlie order of Colonel Little, of the 51st Regiment of M. M. three hundred stand of arms. S. SMITH, M. G. 3d Divismi. Head Quarters, 3d Division, \4th April. 1813. Received one hundred and fifty-four stand of arms, a part of the • above order. PETER LITTLE, Lieut. Col. Com. 5lst Reg. M. M. To tlie Committee of Supplies. Gentlemen : Deliver to the order of Colonel Joseph Sterett, of the 5th Regiment M. M., one hundred stand of arms. S. SMITH. M. G. 3d Division. Mead Quarters, 3d Division, \4th April, 1813. Received fifty stand, on account of the above order. Baltimore, April 16, 1813. JOS. STERETT, Lt. Col. 5th Reg. Received fifty stand, the balance of tlie above order. JOS. STERETT, Lt. Col. 5th Reg. M. J/. I do certify, that the arms delivered to Colonel Sterett, to wit: one hundred stand, and to Colonel Little, one hundred and fifty-four stand, was indispensable: those to the first were used at the battle of Bla-densburg—of both, at tlic battle of North Point. Without them, they •would not have been prepared for those actions. I believe it was the invariable practice to the North, to deliver the public arms to the militia when unprovided. If, however, any difliculty should arise, my receipt for Tbein. and the Governor's admission as part of tlie arms tinder the law for arming the Militia of the United States, might adjust the difficulty. S. SMITH, .V(y\ Gen. Commanding. No. 10. Baltimore, 13th April, 1815. William B. Barney, Esq. bought of Thomas & Caldcleugh, a day or night telescope, - - - - S 30 The above was purchased by me for public use at North Point, where it was left when I was relieved, in the possession of Maj. Jackson. WM. H. B AllNE Y, Maj. 5th C. D. M. .M Received the above in full, May 13th, 1813, for Thomas & Caldcleugh. WM. DYKES. I stationed at North Point a company of cavalry: the commander was charged to keep a look out from the top of a house that commanded a view as far down the Bay as the eye or telescope could extend. and 1 ordered Major Barney to purchase a telescope for that object. When relieved, lie delivered it to Major Jackson, who, no doubt, delivered it to his successor. What is become of it is not known ; but it was purchased by my order, was indispensable, was paid for, and ought to be allowed. S. SMITH, Maj. Gen. Com. |
