THE JEFFERSONIAN, TOWSON, MARYLAND. May 22, 1920—Page 9 LOCAL CORRESPONDENCE GARRISON. Mr. Buckman, of this place, was presented with a brand new granddaughter on May 7, at his home. It was named Virginia, after its grandmother. Weekly dance have begun again at St. Thomas'. They are held in the Sunday School room under the auspices of Mrs. Robert Harrison. They will be held every Friday night from 8 to 10 o'clock. Everyone welcome. A pump hou^e on the old John H. Wight place, now in charge of Mr. J. L. Sullivan, burned down on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Pikesville Volunteer Fire Engine was called put, but it burned to the ground in spite of its efforts; partly because the floor was oil-soaked. Nothing else was very much damaged, as the pumps were on concrete foundations and so did not fall through the floor. Mr. Sullivan is planning to put up a new one as soon as possible. A grammar school athletic meet was held Friday, in which Pikesville, Garrison, Pleasant Hill, Glyndon and Pv.eisters(town competed. Garrison sent ¦quite a few contestants. Mr. . Beak and family have left Garrison and moved to Sparrows Point so as to be nearer his work. -o- PARKTON. The people have been unable to make early gardens on account of the unfavorable weather. The children of Parkton M. P. •Church are now very busy practicing for childrn's day service. There will be Sunday School at the M. P. Church at 9.30 A. M. Everyone welcome. Preaching at the M. E Church at 8 o'clock. Come and hear our new minister, Rev. M. A. Parker. We are sorry to hear of our Assistant Postmistress, Mrs. G. A. Day, being on the sick list. The community wishes her a speedy recovery. Misjs Leah Tipton, who has had a position in Chicago, 111., has resigned and came home to stay after having been west for several years. She will accept a position in Baltimore in the near future. KINGSVILLE. The Overlea Are engines were called out for a chimney Are at the tenant house of Mr. Thomas Fitzell. Miss Regina Shepperd has been confined to the house with a bad cold. Mrs. Haven Wilson has been quite sick the past week with a cold. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Dilworth moved to their new home on Monday. They will be greatly missed in the village, where they have resided for many years. Mifis Nellie Smith, of Baltimore, is a guest of Mrs. Holmes Smith. Bishop John Gardner Murray will confirm a class at St. John's Church on Sunday evening at 7.30 o'clock. Mrs. John McCormick, of Baltimore, spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. William Holter. SHANE There will be preaching services at West Liberty on Sunday morning, Epworth League services at night. Misses Opal and Hazel Davis spent last Saturday and Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Davis. Mrs. S. W. Meredith is much improved at this writing. Mr. S. S. Cooper is still on the sick list. Owing to the unfavorable weather for farm work, very little corn has been planted in this section. MOUNT ETNA. Bear in mind the picnic and flag raising at our school here today. Miss Sallie Hoshall has returned to her home here after Several -weeks' treatment in oire of the city hospitals. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kelbaugh visited Mr, and Mrs. John Cole, near Butler, last Sunday. Mrs. Mary Griffith, of Baltimore, is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. Clarence Bosley. Mrs. Flora Baker isj visiting friends in Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Baker, of Eklo, visited the latter's mother, Mrs. Ella Thompson, on Sunday. Now that the circus is over possibly the weather man may give us some real growing weather. The situation is really beginning to look- serious when one thinks of the scarcity of labor and the extremely cool weather, The question naturally arises, how can the farmers produce crops' to anywhere .fill the ever increasing demand. Long Green Circuit will be supplied until a regular minister can be obtained by Mr. Armstrong, of Baltimore. There will be Sunday School regularlv at Fork M. E. Church at 10 A. M. A cordial invitation is extended to everyone who is not a regular member at another school to come and join, and if the hour does not conflict with your own church a hearty welcome will be accorded everyone at 10 A M. Our doctor now has a new Dodge auto and he carf go some in it too, On accouht of the cold weather there is a prospect of a very short early crop and hay appears] to be at a standstill, with little or no pasturage at present. Potatoes are beginning to show above the ground, but corn and other vegetables are not doing so well. There was a fine play at Ward's Chapel which was well attended. SALEM. Murphy of Baltimore, are spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Abram Fowble. Miss Minnie Armacost, of Sparks, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Margie Martin, is now with her sister, Mrs. Berdie Martin, of Mount Zion. Harvey Armacost, Jr., is spending some time with his aunt, Mrs. Margie Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Strevig, of Grace, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mr», Geo. Boerner.
